OnePlus still working on bringing phones to the US and a 5G phone for 2019

OnePlus has carved its own space within the Android community by offering what most enthusiasts want in a smartphone. Many feel they have replaced the niche left behind by Google’s Nexus program as they offer high-end hardware with premium design at a price that’s less than the competition. Marketing for the enthusiast crowd is difficult as it means they have to stay on top of the current technological needs and they’re planning exactly that when it comes to releasing a 5G smartphone in 2019.

The development of the 5G wireless network has been in the works for years now. First, with waiting for the 5G standard to be published, and now we have multiple wireless carriers throughout the country who are working on upgrading their network. As each year passes now the demand for 5G connectivity and the hardware to support it will grow and OnePlus is well aware of that. The CEO of OnePlus, Pete Lau, took to the stage at the Mobile World Congress Shanghai event and says the company is currently working on a 5G smartphone for 2019.

They hope to have one of the first smartphones on the market with support for 5G connectivity in the United States. While many of the OnePlus smartphones work just fine on carriers like T-Mobile and AT&T, they know how important it is to build a relationship with these carriers. Pete Lau says they are currently working with US carriers and although he didn’t mention a specific carrier on stage, they are hoping that some deal can be worked out by the time the company launches the device.

Interestingly, he did specifically mention that fans of OnePlus don’t need to worry about carriers installing bloatware on their devices.
