Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Android Oreo update now rolling out in the UK

With Android P on the horizon, devices still are only receiving updates to Android Oreo now. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is an example of one of these devices. In the UK it is receiving the upgrade to Android Oreo now. The build number for the upgrade is T820XXU1BRE2 and is available by an Over-the-Air (OTA) update. The update is available for both the Wi-Fi-only and LTE variants.

The update to Android Oreo includes a lot of new features including Picture in Picture mode, the Autofill API, and security enhancements. That’s not to mention the additional features which are included as part of the Samsung Experience 9.0 suite which can be found on the Samsung Galaxy S9 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. It also comes with the 1 April 2018 security patch. Not only that, but the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 even gets Dolby Atmos support with this update. That makes this tablet one of the few Samsung devices to support it.

If all goes well, we’ll see the update arrive in other regions at a later date. It’s likely that the UK is being used for testing of sorts, and so long as there are no major issues it shouldn’t be long until we see it arrive on other international variants of the device. You should be able to manually check for the update simply by going to your device’s settings application, going into the software update menu and tapping “Download updates manually”. If you still don’t see it, you can follow this post by XDA Senior Member AndroidDevices who has written up a tutorial on our forums complete with mirror links to download and install the update on your device.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 was very much a disappointment to many when it arrived, as it launched with previous generation hardware like the Snapdragon 820. Still, Samsung’s line up of tablets is one of the only ones that you can buy with flagship specs. With the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 tipped to arrive sometime this year, we’ll hopefully see a mainstream tablet with the latest and greatest hardware arriving in the coming months – and with Project Treble support to boot.
