Renders and UK Pricing Leaked for Sony’s Upcoming Xperia XZ1 Flagship

Sony reserves its spot at IFA Berlin every year to unveil new handsets in its limited smartphone portfolio. Last year, we witnessed Sony unveil the Xperia XZ flagship and the smaller Xperia X Compact. With IFA 2017 just one week away, Sony is prepping up to bring us its latest flagships and its smaller sibling — the Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact.

Renders of the Xperia XZ1 have leaked online, courtesy of an early listing on Amazon.co.uk, as spotted by Roland Quandt. The listing was quickly taken down, but the renders have made their way onto the Internet.

The product listing also shed light on the pricing of the device, and much like other Sony flagships, the Xperia XZ1 will reportedly retail with a premium price tag. The Xperia XZ1 will come with a price tag of £599 (~$767/€650), which will roughly put it in the same price segment as other current flagships. On the other hand, the smaller Xperia XZ1 Compact will reportedly come with a price tag of £499 (~$639/€540).

As for specifications, early rumors mention that the Xperia XZ1 will come with a 5.2″ FHD display with HDR technology. The handset will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The entire package will be powered by a 3,000 mAh battery. Rumored specifications are also floating around for the smaller sibling, the Xperia XZ1 Compact, which will reportedly come with a 4.6″ FHD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage and a 2,800 mAh battery.

What remains to be seen is how Sony markets the spec sheet and complete package of its devices, as most other 2017 releases have their own unique selling points. The competition is extremely strong this year, and Sony would need a strong product if it harbors any hopes of success. Owing to its smaller display size, the Xperia XZ1 Compact will see itself placed in a product segment with little competition, but the same cannot be said about the Xperia XZ1. There might even be a Premium device planned for later in the year, which would be Sony’s true flagship with features that could set it apart more distinctively from the competition. For now, we can only rub our hands in anticipation of IFA 2017, scheduled for August 31st.

What are your thoughts on the Sony Xperia XZ1’s renders and pricing so far? Do you feel the price of the new flagship is justified, keeping in mind its specifications and design? Let us know in the comments below!
