When Google bought Motorola back in August 2011, people expected to be greeted by the best experience that Android could offer, with Google on the software side and Motorola on the hardware end. But when Google sold off Motorola in 2014 to Lenovo, such hopes were left unfulfilled.
Motorola’s Moto G was one of the best selling Android smartphone for Motorola, and we are at that part of the year where a refresh is in order. Afterall, with most of the flagships announced, the attention will shift onto the entry and mid segments. So, what can we expect from Lenovo-rola when it comes to producing the successor of the one of the defining phones in the low-mid end?
Leaks have started surfacing for the Moto G4 and what may be the Moto G4 Plus. Firstly, the new pair of smartphones will be sporting a fingerprint scanner on the front. This was first noticed on a device spotted in the open, which was then eventually pressed upon by notable leaker Evan Blass of @evleaks fame.
And now, more images point in the direction that the squircle home button is here to stay, being the first choice for fingerprint scanner placement instead of the back dimple, which apparently, is on its way out. This leak comes to us from nowhereelse.fr of the @OnLeaks fame. These new set of images offer us the best look so far of the alleged Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus.
With the squircle fingerprint sensor on the front, there is slim chance of the front bearing a speaker setup. Most likely, the speakers will be bottom firing, or be at the rear on the off-chance. The rear camera setup is also seeing a bit of a design refresh. The rear dimple, which stood as a differentiating aspect of several of Motorola’s phones, now appears much more flat. The image does indicate a change in texture, so this could be a pointer towards the new depth of the dimple. But it is quite clear that it will no longer be as prominent of an occurrence as it once was.
We are still in the early days when it comes to the launch of the Moto G4. More leaks detailing the specs and the design of the phone should surface in the coming weeks. Till then, we can hope that the G series gets a worthy successor.
