The Sony Xperia XA2 launched earlier this year alongside its own Ultra edition and offered some good specs at a decent price. Now the family is expanding, and an upgraded version has been announced. It has a number of features that make it better than its predecessor, and its oriented around multimedia. Meet the Sony Xperia XA2 Plus, with an 18:9 display, slimmer bezels, and high-resolution audio support.

In terms of specifications, the Sony Xperia XA2 Plus is basically the exact same as the regular variant, but with a greater emphasis on multimedia. This phone is simply made for music, supporting both LDAC and Sony DSEE HX. DSEE stands for Digital Sound Enhancement Engine and it recreates higher frequencies and finer signals in compressed and lossless audio to make it sound even better. Interestingly, while LDAC support is in AOSP this is the second manufacturer we’ve seen take it up explicitly in a device recently. This is the first mid-range device by Sony to support DSEE HX as well.

With the tall 6-inch 18:9 display aspect ratio, Sony has also implemented a special one-handed mode in the system, dubbed “mini-display.” Everything else with the XA2 Plus is pretty much the exact same as the regular variant. It’s launching in four different colors – Silver, Black, Gold, and Green. It’ll be available towards the end of August 2018, and the price is currently unknown. We shouldn’t expect to see it exceed $450 though, as it’s still a mid-range oriented device. If you’re looking for a smartphone to tend to your media consumption habits, then this may be the device for you.
